I tried keeping fish once, it was a failure. I'd let them out of the tank to get some exercise. They didn't take to it, lazy buggers.

The sea is full of creatures with a better personality and depth than fish, an Octopus or a sea Turtle would make life pretty different !
Fish on the other hand are...boring buggers with lots of identical copies.

Oh, pish posh. That's just something folks like to tell themselves because fish are tasty....lol.
Fish are more intelligent than people believe. For example--Some species, such as my personal favorite, Betta splendens, have been shown to have excellent long-term memories, are quite capable of recognizing their owner, enjoy social interaction, show appreciation for music, AND....
...are adept at learning tricks.

An Octopus; Thena ! now that would be one hell of a pet; and I think it will eat the fish you got too -_-
I bet that your little darling can't even tell the difference between you and the edge of the water tank. It calls the glass "Thena" too :/
