From what I understand if you live in a house you are bound to have cats/ being visited by cats who walk all over your garden and around the house, and if you don't feed them they pee all around the house (like on the front door) so your option is either to feed them or get a dog to chase them away.

This is true only if you have housecats that aren't fixed. Visitor cats tend to be toms (like GS said) who know there is a female cat in heat in your house.

I tried keeping fish once, it was a failure. I'd let them out of the tank to get some exercise. They didn't take to it, lazy buggers.

Cats are cool, but dogs all the way. We can hike together, swim together, and I can hug my dog whenever I want and come out of it with my eyes intact.
