Yeah, it sounds like an option til you're faced with running gun battles in the streets, car bombs, petrol bombs, children shot, and all the rest of it.
Civic violence may get you the result you want (though that's pretty rare), but it's hardly ever worth it.

The trick is to ensure in the race towards civil violence, the side that lost isn't the side that becomes powerless.
If that is not true, then civil violence is likely inevitable.
