Well... Napoleon did rid the world of the inequity of the Spanish Inquisition.  So there's that.

I mean, really he just needed a better P.R. department and have some cute peasant lass put the royal trappings on his head. "Ruler-ship by the people's choice, for the people." Kind of thing.

  From what I hear, what is said about the Spanish Inquisition is largely a smear campaign by the protestants.  Who were no angels themselves.  Also, I never said that Napoleon wasn't an asshole.  But he was a damn good general.  As for his defeat in his retreat from Russia, I heard that what caused most of the deaths was typhus from lice.  Which may or may or may not be true.  Also, I heard that the buttons that held the soldiers uniforms together were made of tin.  And in really cold temperatures, tin will break apart.  Which could account for much of how the cold got to the soldiers.

  I take it that you would consider yourself to be the opposite of a troll.  But do you know what the opposite of a troll would be?  A fairy.  As in homosexual.  So now, how do you feel about "trolls."

Napoleon once said, "History is a set of lies agreed upon."  Tolstoy once said, "History would be a wonderful thing.  If it were only true."  Most often, what is history depends on the outcome of some conflict.  As one truism says, "History is written by the victors."  And when it comes to war, another truism says, "In war, truth is the first casualty."  For the winning side, it remains a casualty.  Also, no doubt, demonizing the enemy is a tactic as old as the hills.  Another thing is that it is well known that one country's villain is another countries hero.

Do you have any better reasons for despising history, other than a list of quotes?

The objective was to stop communism from spreading any further.  It didn't.

  No.  The objective was to make money for the military industrial complex.  Any sane person would have known that it was a war that couldn't be winnable.  Because to win would have meant sending troops into North Vietnam.  Which would have been the Korean war all over again.  So instead, along with having North Vietnam as a safe base from U.S. ground troops, the North Vietnamese also had Laos and Cambodia.
