You are, of course, free to disagree with that description and argue in favor of another; the same way you can argue that Napoleon from Animal Farm was actually the hero of the tale. But you should at least remember that such interpretations are not canon and not the way they were written.
Comparing primitive literature to modern literature, it becomes apparent how authors in the past failed at properly demonstrating anything beyond their own time period.
Going by what we currently understand of interpreting literature, god is only a good deity to those within that time period. Beyond that, he is a villain.
