And that neither of those terms is a racial category. Latino is anyone descending from Latin America. Hispanic is a Spanish speaking person of Latin descent. You can be Latino but not Hispanic, like myself, my father is Afro-Cuban but I was raised in Ohio and do not speak Spanish. I’m still Latina but not Hispanic. See the difference? Okay have a nice day.
Whether Zimmerman was Latino or Hispanic is quite beside the point. He murdered a 17 year old young man. The distinction between Latino versus Hispanic becomes very minute when you consider that he's a murderer, and most likely a racist at that. And yes, Latinos and Hispanic people can be racist. Imagine that! So can blacks, whites, greens, yellows and purples. Racism is not a black versus white phenomenon.
But, yes, even by your definition, Zimmerman was Hispanic, though I think that's quite beside the point.
edit:
But yes, I agree. "Latino" is not a race just as "white" is not a race. In fact, I don't even know what you would consider a race. Maybe people of a certain country? So Italians could be one race and Polish another? But even then, I'm sure there is a hugely diversified group of people who come from Italy and call themselves "Italians," - I'm sure it's just the same with Polish people. Overall, I think we largely get way too hung up on these words.
