Many governments in the Muslim world were structured and put in power by superpowers after the victory against the Ottoman empire after WW1. The people had no saying in who shall rule; and treaties like Sykes-Picot literally cut the defeated Ottoman empire like a cake:

There were no elections, there was nothing. We Muslims woke up to find vassals ruling us, and if any revolt took place it shall be put down.
And don't forget the replacement of the regular Islam with a Shiite-Sunni ghoul meant to fight itself forever.
