RE: Should Flat-Earthers be debated or ignored?

-and in plenty of cases, there's no reason to. Religious beliefs and motivations are not expressions of what is true, but what we wish were true and would make true if we had the ability. That, that right there, is their truth.
Look no further than these boards for explicit demonstrations. It's not true that Bad Men™ are punished. It's just not, and we all know it. We know they get away with shit, and that's exactly why some of us posit a final judge and judgement. It would be better, we think, if somebody got all the ones that got away. The value of the sentiment isn't found in any fact of existence, therefore the sentiment cannot be argued against by any fact existence. They're not relevant.
The same is true of any analog in ourselves, the irreligious or non woostery types. We also have things that we know arent true, but wish were true, and would make true if we could. Things we think would be better if they were true. If we start there, we have an improved footing for discussing these items wherever we find them.
Even a flat earth, as strained as it seems, starts there. There's no geological fact that a flat earther doesn't know that we do that would change their mind. There's the fact that it would be better (and does anyone want to argue -this- fact) if the presumed creator of the universe wasn't a mouthbreather when it described it's creation. Nobody wants to think that they're following the gospel of cletus. That the lord of creation had a few too many sips of that white lightning before he wrote magic book.
They're not considering the fact of whether the earth is flat or round, they're considering the fact of whether or not the universe is run by a fucking idiot. This (potential) fact they reject, damn the consequences. I bet we all reject that fact too.
