When I read what USians pay for medications, it shocks me. Here, virtually all prescription meds are subsidized to $5.00. Once a family has paid for twenty prescriptions in a year, they pay nothing for the remainder of that year. So - with very few exceptions - no family has to pay more than $100.00 per year for medication.
This appears to have had the effect of not devastating the New Zealand healthcare system.
