His point, I believe, is to say that it had the potential to be interesting, but it is being ruined by idiots. I didn't see him once suggest that he would dismiss the teachings. It is his fellow classmates that pose a problem.
Fair enough, though if i were bothered by my classmates I would just focus on the material we were learning rather than their reactions to the material we were learning. If I didn't understand a math concept right away I would hope no one would think ill of me for it. :/
