Anyway, if I have to go through hell that's what's going to happen. Nothing I can do about that. NPCs get put through whatever the player wants them to be put through. Maybe I've done it thousands of times already, and the player draws such immense enjoyment from my fiery end that he keeps reloading the level, backing up the save.

or it could simply be the process of powering down the sim. the spark of life being depleted as power drains out of the boards and processors, each component struggling to retain whatever electrical power they can, struggling to maintain memory or subroutine cohesion but as power fades as it all slowly fades into nothingness.
