There have been other attempts to change the system, particularly after cases in which a candidate wins the popular vote, but loses in the Electoral College.

This defense is very weak since 5 presidents -including Trump- won without popular vote, so the argument of it being "cheating, not fair...etc" are only results of facing that the law allowed a thug to rule their country.
