That's only if you know sign language, which is why most deaf people rely on reading lips in order to understand what hearing people are stating.

I don't. The Deaf are mostly unseen by the hearing public. As it has always been.
That's why there is a Deaf Culture. Being with people who can, and will, communicate with you in your language is important.
Even the best lip readers only catch about 30% of the words said. Facial expression and body language adds to the context and thereby leads to a certain level of understanding.
