Hurling is the One True Faith. And Limerick are the One True Practitioners of the One True Faith.
I beg to disagree, Brian.
Football in all of its manifestations, including the GAA version would falleth within commandment 10. Hurling does not for the following reasons which i can assert because i have obersved it live in Croke Park; (this was in the days of DJ Carey).
1 football is played by rational, mortal humans.
2 football is sport and thus a cult of physical fitness.
Hurling is neither. Their players are irrational and more likely than not, immortal or at the very least, have no fear of death. This links to point 2. Hurling is a blood sport that merely happens to be played out in a grassy field. It is a cult of terror, violence, war and savagery. I forget where i read it, but i understand that the average career of a non-professional / professional player in the top league is 2.3 games.
