The Good Commandments

The Good Commandments
I was watching something recently on Youtube where Christopher  Hitchens was critiquing the Ten Commandments. It was great stuff. So, I was at a loose end this evening and thought i'd punch out my own.

I reckon my list is a vast improvement on the original. And my 'god' is much better too. Any thoughts? Did i miss out any of the big ones?

Cheers,

The Good Commandments.
1 – Thou shall not put one race above another – I created all people equal.
2 – Thou shall not put one sex above another – like I said, I created all people equal.
3 – Thou shall not cast the blame upon children for the consequences of your own weaknesses.
4 – I am the one true God – taking offense on my behalf is the gravest of sins. Oh, hang on, it’s obviously not the gravest, but it really does irk me.
5 – I am the one true God – so it doesn’t bother me in the slightest if many people don’t believe it. Seriously! I’m good with it.
6 – I didn’t create you guys a back-up planet – don’t waste it.
7 – Thou shall not ignore poverty and injustice – NO, starting your own foundation doesn’t impress me much.
8 – Thou shall take the big hint from evolution – I dig diversity.
9 – If thou feels sorry for something then apologize, but not to me. All creation is mine and you can’t hurt my feelings. Anyway, I have a cosmic sense of humour
10 – Football is not religion! – Well, ok, maybe even I’m conflicted on that one.

RE: The Good Commandments
1. Don't be a dick.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Amending one of those for you:

10. Football is not religion - rugby is. If the All Blacks are playing, it is The One True Faith.

Ok, but given rule number two, i'd have to include that as;

Don't be a dick or a vagina !

In fairness, i was lost years ago to the dark side of the force. I'm rugby league all the way these days.  By the way, in total awe of the sacrifice the Auckland Warriors are making this season.  I reckon every league fan is gunning for them to make the top 8. Go You Good Thing!!

RE: The Good Commandments
If I was a god with a lot of power, here would be my commandments.

1. (Nothing. No commandments. I'll explain.)

If I created people, I would make them so they wouldn't want to do anything fucked up. They wouldn't have to kill anything to survive. All their nutritional needs would come from the sun.

All animals would be herbavores.
No insects or worms.

Done.
Insanity - Doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result

If I was a god, whatever qualifies as that, i would destroy myself in a way that would make a universe.

RE: The Good Commandments
I prefer the ten commandments of humanism:

1) Thou shalt strive to promote the greater good of humanity before all selfish desires.

2) Thou shalt be curious, for asking questions is the only way to find answers.

3) Harm to your fellow human is harm to humanity. Therefore, thou shalt not kill, rape, rob, or otherwise victimize anyone.

4) Thou shall treat all humans as equals, regardless of race, gender, age, creed, identity, orientation, physical ability, or status.

5) Thou shalt use reason as your guide. Science, knowledge, observation, and rational analysis are the best ways to determine any course of action.

6) Thou shalt not force your beliefs onto others, nor insist that yours be the only and correct way to live happily.

7) If thou dost govern, thou shalt govern with reason, not with superstition. Religion should have no place in any government which represents all people and beliefs.

8) Thou shalt act for the betterment of your fellow humans, and be, whenever possible, altruistic in your deeds.

9) Thou shalt be good to the Earth and its bounties, for without it, humankind is lost.

10) Thou shalt impart thy knowledge and wisdom gained in your lifetime to the next generation, so that with each passing century, humanity will grow wiser and more humane.
"The world is my country; all of humanity are my brethren; and to do good deeds is my religion." (Thomas Paine)
