This would obviously be a dirty trick by the Democrats but so what? The Republicans themselves firmly established a precedent for not confirming a justice in an election year. IMO, the Dems will be fools if they don't use whatever means are at their disposal to foil the Republicans in their bid for naked hypocrisy.
I saw this brought up on twitter too.
It could work if we were talking about Nixon's GOP and a base of GOP voters that would react like like Nixon's base at the time.
But tactically speaking we are not talking about a rational party or rational base.
With our current demographics right now, trying to impeach Trump a second time, knowing his support got him through the first impeachment, will only bee seen as revenge, and not law.
The only pragmatic option we have is to vote him out of office in November.
Trump’s base would be immaterial in a second impeachment, since the point would not be to remove him from office, but to stall the Senate confirmation of a new justice.
You’re probably right that it would be seen as revenge, but so what?
