What caused the sun to form? Where did the sun get its energy from?
That's not what's at issue. All the energy of the Universe comes from the big bang. Was there any energy before the big bang? Who knows? Was there any time before the big bang? Again, no-one knows.
Was the big bang everything it seemed to be or is there another explaination for the formation of the Universe, such as M Theory?
You seem to be assuming that because everything is ultimately a form of energy that this means that 'the creator' is this energy. Isn't this just a very anthropic view of nature?
