[Serious] Do you think social media affects public opinion?

I think it's something of an echo chamber. People have their on biases and seek out platforms that they agree with. But then they find a platform that goes even farther than they imagined and it pushes them even farther into the rabbit hole. So yeah, it affects them but they were already looking for the koolaid to drink.
Why is it so?
