Bear in mind, the Republican Party wouldn’t exist for a couple decades after The Jackson Administration, and, as you could probably guess from that, the cultural climate was radically different from what it was now. Advocacy for civil rights for, well, anyone but white landowning men was still in its infancy, and the most radical voices with any sort of political pull (except maybe William Lloyd Garrison, but he was very much an outlier) were still saying that slavery was bad and should end, but maybe we should send them back to Africa. That’s the level America was at during the 1830s.
