I think I’ve said before that the big defining aspect of conservatism at the moment is utterly rejecting the premise that the government should help its citizens at all. Frankly, this is exactly what I think the majority of Republicans in power are actually thinking during a crisis. The most surprising thing is that they’re actually saying it this blatantly. And I suspect that There’ll be more soon enough.
