But what the government thinks they are doing (protecting the women from being forced to wear them) can actually result in LESS freedom for these women because they will no longer be allowed to leave their homes since they will be "exposed."
Then the issue becomes creating laws that give sanctuary to women who want to escape such settings. Any man/family that would force a female to wear a burka or even a hijab are assholes and should not be able to hide behind "freedom of religion".
There was a time in America where females were expected to dress a certain way and stay at home and make babies. Conservatism exists to greater or lesser degrees in every religion depending on sect/family. There have been stories of conservative Jewish men refusing to sit next to women on passenger jets holding up the flight. Even today in America you have sects such as LDS and Amish that expect their females to dress a certain way and are expected to be the servant of the male.
Its all bullshit to me.
