There are probably some really cool effects that you can get with a brush as opposed to spraying - but if spraying is totally out then you're going to have a finish issue between the painted panel (or portion) and the existing work. Think about the design edges and the necessity of sanding out the space. You're going to need to have some plan to deal with that.
