To me, though, a good cut of beef looses appeal when prepared with tomato. Just put the tomato on the salad and don't overthink the steak. Which is why when the family picks Italian, I struggle with both menu and beer selection.

Funny that. A few years ago my best friend from Oklahoma came to visit me, the year before paid for him to go to Australia with me. When he came to North Carolina, I took him to my favorite steak place. Prior to that, he always talked about how he would slather gobs of butter on his ribeye steak. I have never heard of putting butter on steak. So true to his prior discriptions, boy did he pile the pads of butter on. At one point I asked him if he needed a forklift or bucketloader to get the butter on his steak.
I've put ranch dressing on my steaks before.
