I think it’s more social media getting people outraged enough to do something, but not giving them enough training in optics to know what’s actually going to get people on your side.

Racists will never be on the side of minorities seeking equal treatment under the law. That’s kinda their thing.

I’m talking more getting the moderates on your side who aren’t sure about your cause but could be swayed to it than convincing hardcore racists to join in. It’s how we got to convince people that segregating and blatantly mistreating people of color is a bad thing during the Civil Rights movement, and as slow as progress has been on that front, it’s still happening.

That’s where optics really matter.
