So, your logic is that you need to take away people's rights because there's a small chance that some time in the future they may take away your rights. There's a small chance they might take away people's rights in the future, so you need to take away people's rights now? Makes sense.

Yeah, about that "small chance", I live in a country where the far-right have all but entirely taken over one of our two viable political parties, are gutting laws put in place to ensure every citizen above 18 has a right to vote, stacked the Supreme Court with right-wing judges (even going so far as to refuse to allow a vote on a Democratic president's Supreme Court nominees) to enshrine their ideology into law, setting up what basically amounts to concentration camps at the US-Mexico border (and, no, this isn't hyperbole), and, when confronted with an electoral defeat, did this:




Maybe a couple years ago, I would have considered the chances of far-right literal Nazi ideas becoming mainstream to be slim to none. Hell, when Trump gave his speech announcing his Presidential campaign in 2015, I thought "Wow, he managed to announce his candidacy and tank his chances at election in the span within the same speech." And we all know how that turned out. In 2021, this is not a small chance. It is happening.
