So, your logic is that you need to take away people's rights because there's a small chance that some time in the future they may take away your rights. There's a small chance they might take away people's rights in the future, so you need to take away people's rights now? Makes sense.
Yeah, about that "small chance", I live in a country where the far-right have all but entirely taken over one of our two viable political parties, are gutting laws put in place to ensure every citizen above 18 has a right to vote, stacked the Supreme Court with right-wing judges (even going so far as to refuse to allow a vote on a Democratic president's Supreme Court nominees) to enshrine their ideology into law, setting up what basically amounts to concentration camps at the US-Mexico border (and, no, this isn't hyperbole), and, when confronted with an electoral defeat, did this:
Maybe a couple years ago, I would have considered the chances of far-right literal Nazi ideas becoming mainstream to be slim to none. In 2021, it's happening.
Voter ID laws are unnecessary I agree, but they are hardly Nazism. I've shown my ID to vote here in Canada. They refused a vote on Obama's supreme court nominee because they could by law, so why wouldn't they? He was a lame duck president. The current administration is opening up new concentration camps for children and Obama caged children. Both parties in the US suck big time and both parties are white supremacist. These camps aren't because of some new Nazi or neo-Nazi threat that needs to be shut down with authoritarian tactics. The population of the US has become much less racist on average over time, and that trend is likely to continue on its' own. You don't need authoritarianism to step in and take everyone's rights away. That's not the answer. If Clinton had claimed she won the election, it's likely that more than half of democrats would go along with her and say the same thing. People in general are idiots and they will believe what they are told. Yeah, January 6 was really dumb, but not one shot was fired. It was just a bunch of angry fools getting their anger out. It was zero threat to democracy or the republic like corporate news tried to make out so the government could get the manufactured consent to take away people's rights even further with these new terrorism laws, which target progressive causes just as much as they target the right.
Of course the Republicans suck big time and so did Donald Trump. Of course rich people and presidents don't care about minorities. That's always been the case, but people are far less racist now than was once the case. You are not at the doorsteps of Nazism taking over. It's not happening. Remember when Trump said he wanted people to spend a year in jail for burning the flag? Do you want to see a bunch of people in jail for that? This is why you have free speech, so people are protected from things like that. You should be grateful to have these protections.
