The concept of the weekend is an antiquated one.

Largely because weekends were a product of labour union activism, and there's been a concerted effort by businesses to destroy unions. This also applies to paid overtime, the 8 hour workday, paid sick leave, holiday pay, and on and on. 

As collective bargaining becomes weaker, it makes it easier to treat workers like shit.
