I don't believe Trump was referring to the tiki torch rally when he said there were fine people on both sides. He disavowed white supremacy, and like the guy in the video said, sure, the news reported on that, but people like Don Lemon have played that clip of Trump's over and over 100 times, and every time they play it now, they exclude the part about him saying he doesn't mean the white supremacists or neo nazis.

Here's a transcript of the press conference in question, and here are the remarks specifically (one annotation by me in italics, and bold to emphasise the point is also mine):

: "No, no. There were people in that rally -- and I looked the night before -- if you look, there were people protesting very quietly the taking down of the statue of Robert E. Lee. I’m sure in that group there were some bad ones. The following day it looked like they had some rough, bad people -- neo-Nazis, white nationalists, whatever you want to call them.

"But you had a lot of people in that group that were there to innocently protest, and very legally protest -- because, I don’t know if you know, they had a permit. (Note by Rye: the torch rally was an impromptu demonstration and, as a result, they did not, in fact, have a permit to hold the torch rally.) The other group didn’t have a permit. So I only tell you this: There are two sides to a story. I thought what took place was a horrible moment for our country -- a horrible moment.  But there are two sides to the country.

He literally referred to the Tiki Torch Rally when asked to explain who the "fine people" were. And, if there were innocent people protesting in good faith, they must have been so quiet that they might not as well have been there.
