Hitler a lot - a really, really lot - of bad decisions that cost him the war. One biggie was The Battle of Britain. Over the advice of at least some of his generals, Hitler felt that the British could be bombed into submission, to the point where they would either come in on Germany’s side or drop out of the war altogether.
He failed to account for the implacable hatred that the blitz would engender for All Things German.

Strangely, the Brits tried the same tactic against the Germans with Arthur 'Bomber' Harris in charge of Bomber command***. German civilians reacted exactly as had British civilians; it really pissed them off.
