The British Army will keep bearskin hats as they are after chucking out a fake fur version proposed by Peta.
The Ministry of Defence said the iconic caps worn by the Queen's Guard's will still be made from Canadian wild black bears in future.
Ministers slammed the fabric prototype put forward by the animal rights activists for only meeting one of the five requirements to be considered as an alternative.
They said the products had 'unacceptable rates of water shedding and performed poorly on the visual assessment'.

This is a nothing burger. The Canadian black bear is a ‘species of least concern’ (population estimates range between 400 000 and 500 000) and the hat maker who supplies the Guard purchase between 50 and 100 bearskins per year. These are bought at auction, so it’s not as if the animals are being specifically killed for their skins. And those hundred or so hides provide caps for several other military units, not just the Queen’s Guard.
PETA need to calm the fuck down.
