I prefer to be like a mirror. Try to make peace but if the other person is a major jerk, then be like him to him.

How well has this worked for you? If by "major jerk", you mean to the level of narcissists or antisocials, I have found that trying to mimic their patterns of behavior just made things more stressful for me. It's easier and more relieving for me long-term to disconnect from them when/if possible and focus instead on the people whom I find pleasant to be/interact with.
