Here in the UK we pay for the health service through our tax system, but the cost I have to pay on the day is zero, whether I go for a wart or heart surgery.
(most people pay a fee to collect their prescriptions, but if you need things on a regular basis you can pay a one off annual fee, no charge for over 65 year olds or those with some long term illneses like diabetes)
Here, we pay $5 for each new prescription, up to a max of $100 per year. In the unlikely event you need more meds than that, there’s no further charge.
Like the UK, there’s no charge at all for kids (under 14) or pensioners.
