We used to practice with 22s - trying to hit dragonflies. One in 30 is pretty good. These days the bugs are in decline - so it' s no longer done...
I have also shot skeet with a 22 semi auto rifle on board a Coast Guard ship. It's common using shotguns. The executive officer was impressed that I got a few with a .22 rifle.. Of course afteir I got a couple - everybody else had to give it a try... Fortunately I had a full brick of ammo. ( 550 rounds).
It’s been my experience that people who wave guns around and shout threats aren’t really interested in shooting someone (this is a rule of thumb, not a law of nature). It’s largely bluster.
