Sadly, they have every reason to, now. One more possible unintended consequence for Uncle Vladdy, and who'd blame them? I wouldn't.

He regards the breakup of the USSR as the greatest calamity of the 20th Century: greater than the Holocaust or either World War, greater than the Holomodor the USSR inflicted on Ukraine in the 30s.
That tells me all I need to know about his priorities.
