One never wishes someone dead, even when they suffer, but it's obvious that death is a mercy in those cases. When my MiL died, the FD and PD had to be called, as she wasn't yet back on hospice. The police were sort of confused as to why we weren't more upset. I told the sergeant that she'd had a stroke almost two years ago, was paralyzed on her right side, and that we had been told at the hospital that she would live MAYBE 3 days. 23 months later...she finally passed.
