Based on the amount of time playing them, and roughly going through different eras (and no way on earth I can limit this to five )...
First there was the console years, and my very first console I think was called the CBS... massive thing and had controllers like telephone handsets... so on that, two honourable mentions go to Mr Do and as someone's mentioned before, Missile Command (I think it's probably the same game).
Then there was Head Over Heels on the Speccy - another honourable mention.
Then it was time for the Sega and Nintendo wars... Streets of Rage 2 was my favourite Megadrive game, Mario Kart my favourite SNES game, a little bit later, F Zero X my favourite N64 game... the combat in that - spinning into rivals or nudging them off the track was just so satisfying. There was also a shortlived Jaguar console sometime there but can't remember much about it.
Then it was onto the Amiga - Sid Meier's Colonization... I played that for maybe thousands of hours... and then after that Civ 2 on the PC, played for the same sort of amount of time... both of those definitely my favourite Sid Meier games, the later Civ games just feeling a bit, I don't know, convoluted or overly long/complex or whatever... just didn't feel the same.
Then there was a gap of a couple of decades until someone introduced me to Fortnite prompting me to get my first modern era console, a PS4, and later xbox. So Fortnite Save The World being my favourite game for that, with honourable mentions to No Man's Sky and Astroneer.
And finally up to the present, bought a gaming laptop and logged over a thousand hours on Stardew Valley... and that's my favourite game of all time I'd say... but with honourable mentions to the recent Rogue Tower, which is a great dipper-inner and one I've played about 200 hours so far, and just started Hydroneer, which looks great and looks like it will be another massive timesink (hopefully ).
