You mean half of congress. Mainly the Senate. The last time the GOP gave a shit about gun violence was when Hinkley shot Reagan and Brady. Ever since bills that Democrats have passed have gotten overturned by the GOP, like the assault weapons ban. And other bills passed by House get filibustered by asshole Mitch or simply don't come to the floor at all.
It is not that the entire congress doesn't want to do something, it is that one party has it's head up the ass of the manufacturers and the lobby. But one lobby that is hardly ever spoken of, is the NSSF(The Firearm Trade Association). They are the corporate profit lobby for the industry. The NRA is more of a political heat shield for them.
