Even without a Ukrainian alliance -- and we have none thus far -- it still behooves us to support them, as their defense and eventual success is not only in the interest of a peaceful world, it is also in our national interest. And a nation does not have friends. It has interests. Alliances are simply a formal and legal recognition of those interests.
