Sure, that's a nice option.
But I tend to think more realistically. We could allow non-fundamentalists to come with us, but at what cost? They like to pretend that they can separate their belief from their job, but history shows this to be false. Especially considering the social climate of today. Give the chance, in space, encountering alien civilizations, they wouldn't be able to help but attempt to ruin those cultures. I like to think perhaps the aliens would be smart enough to not fall for the theistic nonsense, but what happens when the theists begin to use coercion and force as they are wont to do?
