The article from Whitney is pure speculation. Russia had every reason to blow up its own dysfunctional pipeline and blame it on the west. The idea that those dastardly Americans are trying to split Russia and Germany up as some grand sinister plan to take over Europe is Tom Clancy-level absurd. If America wanted to take over Europe it could have done so ages ago.
