I suspect that for some transgender individuals such is a radical, but necessary, solution for them. As far as the data that I have encountered, the patients of such surgeries are completely satisfied with their choice, with only a small minority who may come to regret the decision. But, who's body is it? As far as the medical ethics involved, it is my understanding that such a decision is not treated casually by the medical profession and the criteria for acceptance for sexual reassignment surgery is a long and arduous road. It's certainly not a casual decision on the part of the provider. Of course, I can only speak for myself and not others. As with Roe v. Wade, some states will probably outlaw the procedure, but not all, and as an United States citizen who has lived in America my entire life (in fact, I have yet to venture outside the US), I think that it is absurd that a patient should have to travel from one state to another to receive their medical, often lifesaving, care.
Well, assholes are going to be assholes. It's a sad state of affairs, and I don't really have an explanation of how to get out of it. The amount of psychological sickness in the whole world due to the psychological sickness in the whole world is a cause. How to counter that? I suspect that H Sapiens is working its way out of this, but it's going to take a long time. We're still pretty primitive. Maybe by the time we work this all out, we'll be extinct. Being the apex predator takes a certain amount of viciousness, and when we lose that, we will no longer be the apex predator.
