The US gets the oil, though.
The US is the top oil producing nation in the world, pumping 18.9 million barrels per day in 2021, for 20 percent of global production.
We produce so much oil we even export it. Below are the 15 countries that exported the highest dollar value worth of crude oil during 2021:
So if the US is one of the big boys when it comes to fossil fuels, it makes no sense to fly risky and expensive sorties over Syria to get even more oil unless we get their pittance of oil at a discount, much as Russia is forced to do these days. You damn well know we don't get a discount.
- Saudi Arabia: US$161.7 billion (16.5% of exported crude oil)
- Russia: $82 billion (8.3%)
- Canada: $74 billion (7.5%)
- Iraq: $72.1 billion (7.3%)
- United Arab Emirates: $69.4 billion (7.1%)
- United States: $41 billion (4.2%)
The fact that the US produces a great deal of oil in no way casts into doubt the fact that they want more.
