There will always be a need, even if it's only to stand between people and those who would otherwise do them harm, to go halfway across the world and dig wells, lay bricks for schools - the best detail a soldier can ever pull in the draw of the hat.
I look forward to the day that a soldiers job is perceived to be the unyielding defense of the entire human race. As opposed to killing the enemy. What enemy? Those are your friends over there on the other ridgeline. They like what you like and do what you do. They came from the same kind of towns and are used by the same kinds of people with the same kind of indifference and callousness. You'd never have a better buddy.
Love you guys, but you know that.
