Did the US give Ukraine permission to strike the air bases inside of Russia? Does anyone think this is actually a smart idea, escalating things like this?

I don’t think Ukraine asked for permission (I have no evidence either way, it just seems unlikely).

The struck bases inside Russia are launching points for Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure - roads, bridges, hospitals, power stations, etc - and are therefore legitimate military targets. This is not escalation, this is self defense.

Legitimate or not, it makes nuclear warfare far more likely, so I'd say Zelenskyy better quit it and be a good boy.
