All the police were white (I think) in the Rodney King case, and the riots occurred after the four officers who did get charged were found not guilty. With black on black, I wonder if there would be as serious a backlash. I guess we'll see.

The race of a cop is ‘cop’. Never expect that black cops are less likely to brutalize a black suspect than are white cops. And I doubt very much that the community won’t take to the streets if these cops are acquitted.

It's been my experience that when a black cop talks about the black community he serves, at least outside of public statements, it's rarely positively. I suspect years of training, the privilege that comes with having enough to actually qualify for the job*, and having a job that necessarily involves coming into contact with a disproportionately high number of the worst representatives of your own people has something to do with it.

And while there's a bunch of movies I could use that can illustrate it (Training Day, Deep Cover, Boyz N Da Hood, Straight Outta Compton), the videos I'm finding from said movies tend to drop some N-Bombs. Since, from what I understand of the rules, that's strictly forbidden, I may as well do a scene that makes a less than subtle allegory:




*Note: for the Chicago PD, the bare minimum requirements include 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university and paying any and all debts to the City, which is not cheap and may not be an option for many poorer people, and that's not even going into the vetting of their criminal records, which can't be good when their communities are over-policed and 1 in 3 Black men end up going to jail at some point in their lives, and often with longer sentences than white people who commit the same fucking offence. Plus, while I don't see it in the CPD requirements, some others I've seen require a driver's license, which can also be a problem.
