All oriented sex is mere physical gratification. That's the whole point.

Lot's objection in the verse was this point: 

Surely you indeed come up with lust to men, apart from (i.e. instead of) women

Homosexuals just broke the evolutionary path that humans are made to take. A society of many homosexuals would cease to exist due to diseases and lack of offsprings.
