Part of the problem with the question - that we need to interpret interest as a specific kind of interest...and even in that category, a specific kind of a specific kind of interest, the bad and exclusively bad kind. We don't ever act outside of interest. Action is a demonstration of interest. We do sometimes act outside of personal gain, and we do sometimes act inside of personal gain in a way that is not bad.
The question, by it's framing, seeks a very specific answer and..likely... can admit no other answer. As any act outside of the double limited boundaries will be insisted to be said act itself, no matter what. As already demonstrated in thread. A corrected question might look something like "surely, we act out of interest, but what does that mean or entail?" The reason this question is not asked by the op is that the op already has a preferred answer for it, and merely seeks to wash all acts with that particular and novel answer. It's not a question at all, it's condemnation by shade.
Change my mind, lol.

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
