The palpable fear of gun control in the terrorist demographic is not based on their belief that such regulations would not work, but very specifically that they would. Not to reduce mass shootings, mind you, but to reduce their access to weapons central to their identities. Ironically, taking weapons away from terrorists and preventing them access to more weapons has a pretty clear relationship with their ability to commit terror attacks. Thankfully, for them, the american public in general...to include lawmakers...are extremely uncomfortable with the sort of targeted regulations that might actually make their fears a reality. One does have to wonder how many of the half a million armed lunatics gleck observed are in this demo.
Why exactly would you need some high-tech weapon to commit mass shooting? I understand why you would need a high-tech weapon, which can shoot very fast and with high precision, to stop a mass shooting: if the weapon you are trying to stop the shooting (by injuring the shooter) with is not precise, you might harm innocent people while trying to do that.
