Dude, you sound like a hoot! I'm not very active here any more but I hope you stick around. You are just what this forum needs!
We have a lot of parallels. I turn 64 in a week and I was also subject to a Catholic upbringing albeit to a much smaller degree than you were. My family and extended family were Catholic but nobody was extreme. I had the odd idea growing up that the whole religion thing was some kind of social convention that nobody actually believed in. I was around 12-13 years-old when I became aware that people actually took this shit seriously and believed it for real. It was shocking to me!
I find your musical taste kind of funny in a Wayne's World kind of way. I'm a late bloomer in that way. I started out with extremely mild musical taste. Like another member who doesn't post much here any more, I have an appreciation of the Swedish band Abba! I gradually developed a taste for hard rock as I aged. Not to the same degree as you but I love Rush. One of my all-time favorites is Alice Cooper's The Ballard of Dwight Fry.
Anyway, Welcome to the Forum!

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
