Is art deranged?
#3
RE: Is art deranged?
I went to the tate modern a few years back - i felt indifference. I wanted to leave and go do something else.
I went to the london portrait gallery a few times and liked it. I made a list of all the rooms and wanted to see every one in detail, but haven't gotten around to it all yet.
There is a banksy painting just down the road. It's ok. fun to show mates who visit - say "oh, thats a banksy btw"
I have made a list of every song released in 1970 (using wikipedia - so popular western music only) - I'm listening my way through a little each day. I'll say there is a heck of a lot of junk out there. Occasionally, you find a gem that seems to have been forgotten, but, a lot of junk.
The houses that seem to be being built in the UK - newbuilds - they are a horrorshow. plain, ugly, cramped, not really great to live in. Such a waste of resources. Now, someone in the future has to knock them all down an rebuild something good - so why not just build the good stuff in the first place??!!
I always avoided stupid, ugly "modern art" as most people called it. What a waste of time and energy. I hoped i was the idiot and that someone could explain it to me and a lightbulb would switch on and it would make sense and I'd say "riiiigggghhhhhttt - i get it now - that's quite good actually".
A colleague said to me
Her: "It's a tax thing"
I: "huh"
Her: "Bad art is commisioned by people who want to pay less tax. They pay an artist to make any ridiculous junk, assign a crazy value to it and move it around. So long as someone in the rich club is willing to pay the crazy price, you can move money around and pay less tax"
I: "riiiigggghhhhhttt - i get it now"

"Modern art" ???
"I looked out the window and saw a dog under a tree happily chasing his tail for 5 minutes".
For 5 minutes I watched thinking "That dog is easily entertained"

With modern art, whats idiotic - the art itself or me for giving it more than indifference ???

So I pave the way positively looking for the good.
Cooking is the best !!!
Some stories are the best !!!
Standup comedy is the best !!!
Some Music is the best !!!
I try to value beauty and goodness and believe thats worth my attention (art speaking).

Is art deranged? no - you are for paying nonsense any mind

;-)
